TATA IPL 2024: LSG's Mayank Yadav Hits Season's Fastest Ball at 156.7 kmph
Once more, Mayank Yadav, the dynamic young fast bowler for Lucknow Super Giants, unleashed his blistering pace, recording the swiftest delivery of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at 156.7 kmph. This feat occurred during a match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Aged 21, Yadav had already surpassed the 150kmph mark nine times during a previous game at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium. In that match, he sent down a searing delivery clocked at 155.8 kph, marking it as the fastest ball of the ongoing season.
Continuing his impressive form, the right-arm pacer Mayank Yadav set a new benchmark yet again. Hailing from the Sonnet Club of Delhi, Yadav clocked an impressive 156.7 kmph delivery while facing off against Cameron Green in the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. This feat now ranks as the tournament's fifth-fastest delivery, trailing only behind Umran Malik from SRH among Indian bowlers. Malik's fastest delivery of 157 kmph in IPL 2022 remains unmatched, while he also recorded a 156 kmph delivery.
Overall, Shaun Tait had bowled the fastest-ever delivery in IPL so far, a lightning-fast 157.7 kmph ball in 2011. Lockie Ferguson is second with a 157.3 kmph delivery in 2022. Gerald Coetzee is credited with bowling a 157.4 delivery for Mumbai Indians against Rajasthan Royals, but it was reportedly a technical error. Yadav's exploits caused a stir on social media, with several current and former cricketers taking note of the scorching deliveries bowled by the LSG pacer.
Yadav has now delivered the quickest ball of this season at 156.7 kmph, with Nandre Burger coming in second at 153.0 kmph, followed by Gerald Coetzee at third with 152.3 kmph. Yadav opened his spell with a 151 kmph delivery in his initial over, leaving Glenn Maxwell astonished by the sheer pace and resulting in an easy catch to Nicholas Pooran at mid-on. Continuing his momentum into the next over, Yadav dismissed Cameron Green, another prominent Australian batsman, with a superb delivery. After unsettling Green with a short-pitched ball, the fast bowler followed it up with a full delivery that angled in and straightened late, ultimately clipping the top of the off stump.
Making a triumphant return, Yadav secured Rajat Patidar's wicket with a top-edged delivery that soared high into the air. He came close to claiming his fourth wicket of the evening as he outpaced Dinesh Karthik, but the Decision Review System (DRS) adjudged the ball to be clearing the stumps. Yadav concluded his spell with an outstanding 3-14 in four overs, marking his second three-wicket haul in just his second match.
